State Bank names local bankers to head newly acquired branches

LA GRANGE – State Bank is pleased to announce the appointments of Sam Urso and William J. (Bill) McGuire as Banking Center Presidents at two of its Bryan/College Station branches, effective immediately. Following the acquisition of First Federal Savings Bank on July 31, 2002, State Bank operates three branches in the Bryan/College Station region.

A native of College Station, Mr. Urso is a 1970 graduate of A&M Consolidated High School and attended the College of the Mainland, Texas City, Texas, where he studied banking and business. Mr. Urso and his wife, Gerry, have two children, Soncy and Samuel.

Mr. Urso has been involved in finance and banking since 1974 and has experience in consumer, commercial, real estate and agricultural lending. He was most recently senior vice president/chief lending officer at First Federal Savings Bank. Mr. Urso will be responsible for all operations and lending functions at the State Bank 2900 Texas Ave., Bryan, banking center.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Mr. McGuire has lived in College Station since 1962. He is a 1969 graduate of A&M Consolidated High School, attended Texas A&M University, and graduated from ABA National Consumer Credit School in 1985. He and wife, Jeannie, have three sons and one daughter.

Mr. McGuire has spent more than 20 years in the banking industry in the Bryan/College Station area in posts of steadily increasing responsibility. Prior to his current appointment, he was vice president of consumer lending at another area financial institution. In addition to overseeing operations of the branch, Mr. McGuire will focus on consumer lending products, such as home equity and auto loans at the 2202 Longmire, College Station branch.
